Overview
User Roles within the Cosmos Portal give Administrators a way to control which users have access to which functionality within the Cosmos product suite.
This article discusses the different user roles and the permissions that are allowed with each one.
Details
Users Roles can be assigned to users depending on what level of access the user should have to each area of Cosmos. A user can be assigned any combination of these roles, but it is important to note that users that are assigned the License Type of "Lite User" can only be assigned the Report Viewer role.
Each of the available user roles and a description of what each one enables is covered below.
User Roles
Report Viewer: This is one of the most common roles, and enables users to see reports, run reports, and open reports. Any user that has the License Type of "Lite User" can only be assigned the Report Viewer role.
Report Editor: This role enables users to create new reports and modify existing reports within the Cosmos Portal. Users with this role will be able to leverage the Cosmos Report Editor in Excel to make modifications to their reports. These users will see the Workspace available in their Reports section and can check-out and check-in reports to make modifications.
Data Model Editor: This role enables users to access the Data Model section of the Cosmos Portal and make updates to the Data Model by adding and/or removing tables and fields, publishing pipelines, scheduling pipelines to run on a regular basis, and by running pipelines manually.
Administrator: This role enables the user to access administrative areas of the website and enables the user to add new users, change the roles of other users, and remove users from the Cosmos Portal.
API User: Users with this role will be able to leverage the Cosmos API to pull data out of Cosmos and into tools such as Power BI or Excel. Any user that will be creating and publishing Power BI reports will need to have the API User role assigned to them to create a connection to your Cosmos data.
Power BI Viewer: Users with this role will be able to open and view Power BI reports in the Cosmos Portal that have been shared with them. Users without this role will not see the Power BI menu under Reports and will not be able to interact with Power BI reports from within the Cosmos Portal.
Details on how to change roles for users are explained in the article here: How to Assign Roles to a User.
