Overview
Cosmos makes the process of adding new users to the Cosmos Portal quick and easy. Since Cosmos integrates directly with Azure Active Directory, your users are readily available for your Cosmos Administrator to add.
This article will cover how to add new users to the Cosmos Portal.
Details
New users can be added to the Cosmos Portal by any user who has the Administrator role within Cosmos.
To add new users, the Administrator should first navigate to the Administration section on the left-hand side of the Cosmos Portal.
Once there, the Administrator will see all the current users and the roles that are assigned to them. To add a new user, click the Add User button in the upper-right corner of the Administration section.
The user will then be shown a window for selecting the License Type (Full User or Lite User) and then search for the user to add.
Your organization is licensed for a specific number of Full Users and Lite Users. Each of these have different capabilities, which are explained below.
- Full Users: This License Type allows users to have any role, including Report Viewer, Report Editor, Data Model Editor, or Administrator.
- Lite Users: This License Type only allows users to have the Report Viewer role, so they are limited to being able to run and open reports but not make changes to anything.
Prior to adding the user, you can change the License Type by clicking the dropdown and selecting either Full User or Lite User. Once the user is added they will have this License Type assigned to them. This can easily be changed after the user is added by following the steps in the article here: How to Change the License Type for a User (Full User vs. Lite User).
Once the License Type has been set, you can search for the selected user by starting to type their name in the Find Users... field.
This will search your Azure Active Directory users and will return any matching names, along with the picture of the user. Click on the desired user to have their name placed in the Find Users... field and then click the Add button.
You can then assign roles to a user by following the steps in the article here: How to Assign Roles to a User.
