Overview
We're excited to announce the availability of Cosmos in additional regions around the world! Our engineering team has been hard at work over the past few months, and we now have Cosmos available in Azure data centers in Canada, the United Kingdom, and soon we will have regional availability in the European Union as well.
In addition to this, we've added several improvements to the product. We have many more features planned for the next 4-6 weeks, so stay tuned for frequent updates.
Highlights of this release include:
- Key Field is Required if All Source Tables are Incrementally Loaded
- Improved UX for Enabling Business Central Companies
- Users Can Rename Data Model Extensions
- Users Can Cancel a Pipeline Run
- Improved Location of Purge Pipeline
- Users Can Enable Drilldown for Scheduled Reports
- User Can Be Emailed if a Scheduled Report Fails
- Users Can Download a File with their Power BI Connections Embedded
- Improved User Interface for Reporting Section Side Pane
Key Field is Required if All Source Tables are Incrementally Loaded
We have added improved validation within the data model to ensure that users are setting up their tables correctly when incremental loading is being used. Users will now be prompted if they haven't configured Key Fields for a table.
Improved UX for Enabling Business Central Companies
Based on user input, we have streamlined the process of adding or removing companies in Business Central and made the user interface clearer as to which companies are currently selected.
Users Can Rename Data Model Extensions
Users are now able to rename extensions that have been imported from the Gallery or that have been created manually.
Fields Marked as Obsolete in Business Central are Disabled in the Staging Area
Occasionally Microsoft will flag a field as "obsolete", meaning that it can no longer be used in BC or have data extracted from it. We have added a feature where, if a table has been flagged as Obsolete, the field will be disabled in the Staging area so the user cannot select it. Otherwise, the pipeline would fail to run when BC would block pulling data from that field.
Users Can Cancel a Pipeline Run
Users can now cancel a pipeline run after it has started. This enables users to cancel the pipeline, make additional changes, and then republish and run the pipeline again without having to wait for the original pipeline run to finish first.
Improved Location of Purge Pipeline
The Purge Pipeline button is primarily used when working with our support team, but it was in a highly visible spot in the user interface in Data Management. This has been moved to a less conspicuous location so users don't accidentally click it when they didn't mean to.
Users Can Enable Drilldown for Scheduled Reports
It is now possible to enable Drilldown for a scheduled report. If the Drilldown toggle is enabled when configuring a scheduled report, the recipient of the report will be able to drilldown into values in the report if they have the Cosmos Excel Add-In published for them.
User Can Be Emailed if a Scheduled Report Fails
We have enabled a feature where a user can be emailed if a scheduled report run fails. This way the user can proactively investigate the failure and/or notify the intended recipients.
Users Can Download a File with their Power BI Connections Embedded
We have several Power BI templates available, but some users want to just connect directly to their Cosmos data with Power BI and do all the data modeling themselves. We've made this easier by adding a "Create Dashboard" button in the Power BI section of the Cosmos Portal that will download a PBIDS file that has their Cosmos tenant's connection settings embedded in it. This way the user just needs to log in with their Microsoft account and will be connected directly to Cosmos.
Improved User Interface for Reporting Section Side Pane
Based on customer feedback, we have changed the way that the side pane works in the Reporting section. Instead of expanding and collapsing automatically when the user mouses over the right-side of the Reporting section of the Cosmos Portal, the user can now simply click a << button to expand the side-pane. In addition, if the user clicks the Run button for a report the side pane will open automatically.
