Overview
Report images are shown on each report card to give the users a visual indication of what the report looks like. There are two simple ways to change the image that is displayed in a report, and both methods are covered in the article below.
Details
Report images can help users determine which reports are which by providing an indication of what the report looks like. There are times when these images need to be updated, such as when a brand-new report is created and does not yet have an image or when the structure of the report changes enough that a new image would be preferable.
Only users with the Report Editor role can change the report image that is displayed on the report card.
Selecting the Image to Use
The first step is to pick the image to be used. This should be something that makes it clear to the user what the report looks like when it is run.
Once the user knows what they would like to take an image of, they will take a screenshot of the finished version of the report and save the file. Only images that are formatted as JPG and PNG can be used as uploads for report card images.
It is strongly suggested that a standardized image size is used for all images, otherwise the report cards can display as different sizes. The recommended image size, and the one used by all reports in the Cosmos Gallery, is 1580 x 760 pixels.
Once the image has been changed, the previous version of the image is discarded and cannot be reverted.
Changing the Report Image
There are two methods that can be used to change the report image for a report:
- Drag-and-drop the image file from your local machine onto the image section of the report card
- Click the camera icon and use the file selector to pick the file to use
Drag-and-Drop the Image
To drag-and-drop a new image for the report card, the user can open the folder that contains the file to be uploaded. The user can then click the file that represents the image, drag it, and drop it onto the image section of the report card. The image section will be highlighted with dashes as shown in the screenshot below. The image will be uploaded to the Cosmos Portal and the new image will then be shown to the user.
Uploading the Image File using the Camera Icon
As an alternative to the drag-and-drop method, the user can click the camera icon in the upper-right hand corner of the report card.
When the user clicks the camera icon, they will be shown a file picker and can then navigate to the folder that contains the JPG or PNG file to be uploaded for the report image. Once the user selects the file to be used, they will click the Open button at the bottom of the file picker. The image will then be uploaded to the Cosmos Portal and the new image will be shown to the user.
